These are the following hardware:
Hauppauge Nova-S Model 794 Pros
The card works under Win XP without problems.

The problem is your SuSE version.
It is simply too old and contains the correct drivers are not.
Try SuSE 10.3 and Ubuntu 8.04 (better codec management!).
